Thinking of You

This song makes me think of you every time I hear it. (Except for that weird part in the middle...) ;)

(The video is just funny.)

Love you!

Life at Home

Sometimes I feel like people are watching me while I'm in the kitchen. Do you ever get that feeling?

Life at Home

Valiant went to a high school football game a few weeks ago.  He said it was really boring and all the kids just sat on the bleachers playing on their smart phones and ignored the action on the field.   After I saw this Zits comic, I realized his experience wasn't unique.

Having a Man Around the House...

...makes dealing with little mishaps like this MUCH easier.  In fact, you can probably imagine what I said when I discovered this.

Can you see it?  I was so irked...

Can you identify it?  How did that happen?

 Are you sure?

Fortunately, Charming was on hand and so I effectively delegated the task of resolving the situation to him.  His shoulders are broad enough to handle the load!  One less toddler-sized cup in our cupboards...time marches on!

Having A Man Around the House...

...makes dealing with sleep-walkers a bit easier.

One night last week, Valiant headed downstairs in the middle of the night.  Buttercup heard him even before I did and started calling him by name.  He didn't answer her, so she jumped out of bed (our bed, actually) and followed him to the front door where he was busily unlocking the door.  She stopped him and said, "What are you doing [Valiant]?"  He angrily replied, "I'm going to get Mom!  You left her in the TREE!!"  "Valiant, Mom is upstairs."  "No, you said you left her in the TREE!"  "No, Valiant, she's upstairs...go to bed."  Valiant turned and headed upstairs to the bathroom and that was that.

(P.S.  I don't think we need to discuss from which parent he inherited this little trait, okay?)

Husband at Home Makes Dealing With...

...these weird things much easier!

Two trips to Napa later (yep, they gave me the incorrect one the first time - apparently the correct one is actually listed as for a 1998 or earlier!), I have a new radiator cap.

Having a Man Around the House...

...makes "man-handling" a 50-lb of flour much easier.  ("Man-handling"...get it?...I crack myself up!)

Oh, I did it, but it wasn't as easy as watching YOU do it for me.  There you have it, 50 pounds of bread flour, ready to be made into "bread-type" goodness.    I didn't even spill that much...woot!

Having a Man Around the House...

...makes mowing lawns easier.

(Helping Daddy - June 26, 2002)

As the result of unforeseen circumstances, Valiant was unable to fulfill his mowing obligation for Miss Sue.  In the old days, you would have come home from work and headed over to make it happen.  In our new world, we're still sticking together, but we're rolling a bit differently.

 (July 26, 2010 - 8 years and 1 month later)

Yep, Buttercup begged and learned to operate the mower, so she got to collect the paycheck.

Having a Man Around the House Makes Some Things Easier

After 6 months, I not ashamed to say that I've discovered some things are just easier with a man around the house.  I've decided that I should not hold back these thoughts and, instead, I'll share them with you in a new occasional series:

Having a Man Around the House Makes Some Things Easier

Hopefully, these things will put a smile on your face.

So, today, the first one:

Having a man around the house makes removing, washing, and replacing a dust-ruffle on a king-sized bed much easier.  Oh, don't get me wrong:  I did it and Buttercup and Valiant helped, but it was definitely one of those things that is much easier when you're around.  (Yes, that is an old, old picture and no, I didn't rearrange our bedroom.)

November 19, 2010 - Daeji Bulgogi Edition

...or the "Aren't you envious?" Edition!

Payday was yesterday, so after we did our "To Kill a Mockingbird" group discussion, I took the kids out to Kim's Kitchen for some Korean food! Mmmm...it was so good. We got there early enough to take advantage of lunch prices and she recognized the kids as belonging to you: "I know your Dad!"

Daeji Bulgogi all around, complete with kimchi (yes, even the cucumber salad). It was really good. (We're scared to tell Mr. R that we went without him. Think he'll get over it?)

February 18, 2010 - To Kill A Mockingbird Edition

Our local library system is part of the NEA's "Big Read" and the moderator for our local homeschooling group's Adolescent Literature Seminar timed our selection to coincide with the Big Read event in our area. Our kids read and discussed "To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee (and many watched the 1962 movie by the same name). We actually met at a coffee shop called Atticus Gift and Coffee Shop, which is right next door to Boo Radley's, so we were definitely in the mood.

The local librarians were holding their event following our discussion time, so the kids each got their own copy of the book. Pretty neat, eh?

Great book, great movie, and wonderful opportunity.

P.S. Buttercup took a book to send to you..she said if you take care of it, you can give it back and she'll put in her library when you get back.

February 17, 2009 - Life at Home - Still Sick Edition

Buttercup was really feeling under the weather today and I'm still pretty low energy. This cold just saps your energy and ability to stay focused for any length of time. (Seriously. I've been playing a lot of solitaire, for goodness' sake!)

Fortunately Netflix streaming was at the ready and provided hours of cheesy entertainment.

First, we watch "Godzilla Tokyo SOS ". (As I type this, I've been informed that this movie was NOT cheesy. Sorry--my bad.) Still can't figure out the two orange-sarong clad fairy chicks, but hey, what do I know?

Buttercup loved it and now I can say I've introduced my children to badly dubbed foreign films. My work here is complete!

After that, we took a risk on "Dragon Wars". We all agree this turned out to be THE WORST MOVIE WE'VE EVER WATCHED.

Yet, we watched it all the way through. What does that say about us? It was really like finding yourself watching golf or bowling on Sunday and being too darned tired to get up to change the channel. (Remember those days?)

February 16, 2010 - Life at Home - Valiant's Birthday Edition

Valiant's 14th Birthday!

Took the two younger ones out to breakfast, followed by some abysmally bad bowling. Then we picked up Charming and had a family dinner. Best of all? You skyped right in time to participate in singing "HappyBirthday" to Valiant and "helping" him blow out his candles. A bunch of the neighbors were there, too. It was awesome!

(The picture is terrible and the camera went wonky right after I snapped it, but, hey, at least we've got it! Look at that smile on Valiant's face!)

February 15, 2010 - Life at Home

As you know, we're having unseasonably wonderful weather here in Eastern Washington these days. Seriously. Think of a cold So Cal winter and you'd right on target. Headed out to my dad's new house on Saturday to see if they have a mailbox, to see if the little boy statue was still in the pond, and to close the blinds and stuff. Almost got my family car stuck in the mud when I decided to go exploring...definitely an adventure that required four-wheel drive.

Mailbox? Check!

Little Boy Statue? Nowhere to be found...

Gate attached to nothing? Check! (Notice, if you will, that I brought my own power source for the gate!)

Look at that sky! Isn't it gorgeous? Even almost-getting-stuck-in-the-mud-with-my-Suburban was awesome with scenery like this.

February 14, 2010 - Life at Home - Valentine's Edition

Your daughter thought I was a total failure in the Valentine's Day department. (She's tough: a movie and a card didn't sway her.) Fortunately, you saved the day with this stuff.

Score one for Daddy!

P.S. Both kids, however, were bemused by the neighbors presenting these to us. The delivery was made while we were at the movies and our neighbors kindly accepted them, but the kids had trouble understanding that the stuff wasn't gifts from the neighbors...too funny.
